TDK Introduces a Compact Gate Driver Transformer Series Designed for 500 V Systems

TDK Corporation introduces the EPCOS EP9 series (ordering code: B82804E), a more compact alternative to the existing E10EM series of surface-mount transformers, specifically designed for IGBT and FET gate driver circuits. Optimized for high-performance applications in e-mobility and industrial systems operating at 500 V, these transformers provide superior insulation, minimal coupling capacitance, and outstanding thermal resilience. With the launch of this new series, TDK continues to advance the green transformation, contributing to a more electrified and sustainable future.

Built on a MnZn ferrite core with an SMD L-pin construction, the EP9 series features a low-profile design with a height of just 11 mm and a compact footprint of 13 x 11 mm. Engineered for durability in harsh environments, these transformers operate across a broad temperature range from −40 °C to +150 °C. Offering a coupling capacitance of only 2 pF, compliance with the AEC-Q200 Rev. E standard, and creepage and clearance distances of at least 5 mm, these surface-mount components are ideally suited for automotive applications and other demanding use cases.

Designed to support topologies such as half-bridge and push-pull converters, the EP9 series operates at a typical frequency range of 100 to 400 kHz, with turn ratios tailored for specific applications. To facilitate seamless integration into high-volume production environments, these transformers are supplied in tape-and-reel packaging, ensuring ease of assembly.

A sample kit, available under order number B82804X1, includes six transformers of each version, allowing engineers to evaluate multiple configurations.
