TDK Corporation Expands the TDK-Lambda Brand CCG Series with Two New Options for 1.5W to 10W Isolated DC-DC Converters

TDK Corporation has announced the expansion of its TDK-Lambda brand CCG series of isolated DC-DC converters, introducing two new options for the 1.5W to 10W range. One of the latest enhancements is an optional two-sided board coating, offering additional protection for demanding environments such as industrial and rail applications. Additionally, a larger 40-piece tray size has been introduced, simplifying the placement process for surface-mount models.

The CCG series features a total of 144 voltage and current combinations, supporting outputs of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 15V, as well as dual +/-12V and +/-15V configurations. Dual-output models can also be reconfigured to provide single 24V and 30V outputs. Designed to accommodate a broad range of power sources, all models operate from wide input voltage ranges of 4.5 to 18V, 9 to 36V, or 18 to 76V DC, making them compatible with 5V, 12V, 24V, and 48V DC supplies. The 4:1 input range helps streamline inventory management and procurement processes by allowing a single part number to cover multiple nominal input voltages.

The compact design of the series ensures efficient use of board space, with the 1.5W and 3W models measuring 15.7 x 10.4mm (L x W), while the 6W and 10W versions measure 19 x 12.4mm (L x W). Featuring a non-encapsulated plastic case, the converters eliminate potential quality issues associated with silicone potting compounds during reflow soldering.

For precise voltage regulation, single-output models include a trim function that allows adjustment from -5% to +10% of the nominal value, compensating for voltage drops across the PCB. Standard features across all models include overcurrent protection and a remote on/off function, which can also be used to switch the converters into standby mode. This significantly reduces off-load power consumption to below 0.1W, extending battery life in portable applications.

The CCG series is designed to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to +100°C (depending on the model) with convection or forced-air cooling. The converters offer 1,500Vdc input-to-output isolation and are fully certified to IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1 safety standards. They also carry CE and UKCA marks for compliance with the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives.

The series is well-suited for a range of demanding applications, including rail rolling stock and trackside infrastructure, robotics, telecommunications, data systems, test and measurement equipment, harsh environment process control, broadcast systems, and battery-powered devices.
