ST Introduces Integrated Full-Bridge DC Motor Driver with Real-Time Diagnostics

STMicroelectronics’ VNH9030AQ integrated full-bridge DC motor driver is tailored for a wide range of automotive applications, including functional safety systems. Featuring advanced diagnostics, the driver incorporates a dedicated pin for real-time output status, eliminating the need for external circuitry and reducing the bill of materials (BOM).

With an RDS(on) of 30mΩ per leg, the VNH9030AQ efficiently supports mid- and low-power DC motor-driven applications such as door-control modules, washer pumps, powered lift gates, trunks, and seat adjusters. Integrated non-dissipative current-sense circuitry enhances overall efficiency while eliminating additional components by monitoring current flow and distinguishing motor phases. Additionally, its low standby power consumption across the entire operating temperature range ensures suitability for zonal controller platforms.

The VNH9030AQ driver incorporates high-side and low-side MOSFETs along with gate drivers, diagnostics, and robust protection mechanisms against overvoltage transients, undervoltage, short-circuits, and cross-conduction. Its flexibility to configure MOSFETs in parallel or series enables compatibility with multi-motor systems and other specific design requirements.

Part of ST’s latest VIPower M0-9 technology family, the VNH9030AQ enables efficient monolithic integration of power and logic functions. All devices in the family share a 6mm x 6mm thermally enhanced triple-pad QFN package, designed for efficient underside cooling, along with a common pinout for simplified layout and software reuse.
