Infineon Launches PSOC™ Control, the newest family of high-performance Arm® Cortex®-M33-based MCUs
Infineon Technologies AG has introduced PSOC™ Control, the latest family of high-performance microcontrollers (MCUs) based on the Arm® Cortex®-M33 architecture. Combined with system design tools and software available in ModusToolbox™, this all-encompassing solution empowers developers to design high-performance, efficient, and secure motor control and power conversion systems with ease.
The PSOC Control C3 lineup includes Entry and Main Line products, providing a scalable and compatible selection of performance levels, features, and memory configurations. The series also offers dedicated MCUs tailored for Motor Control (C3M) and Power Conversion (C3P), addressing specific applications such as home appliances, industrial drives, robotics, light electric vehicles (LEVs), solar systems, and HVAC systems.
Infineon’s PSOC Control C3 MCUs enable real-time system control, designed to respond to real-time events with minimal latency and low resource utilization. Powered by the robust Arm® Cortex®-M33 processor operating at up to 180 MHz, the MCUs are supported by a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), a Floating-Point Unit (FPU), and the Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) hardware accelerator to expedite control loop calculations. Additionally, the MCUs feature a broad array of peripherals, integrated memory, multiple interfaces, and advanced Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) architectures.
The Entry Line MCUs (C3P2 and C3M2) incorporate high-resolution, high-precision A/D converters and timers. Meanwhile, the Main Line MCUs (C3P5 and C3M5) go further by adding high-resolution PWMs (HRPWMs), enabling high-performance systems to react to real-time events with minimal delays. All four series support the execution of power and motor control loops, with Main Line devices offering advanced capabilities for higher switching frequencies and compatibility with Wide Bandgap (WBG) power systems.
The PSOC Control C3 MCUs are equipped with robust safety features, including Class B and SIL 2 safety libraries, alongside PSA Certified™ Level 2 / EPC2 security. With integrated crypto accelerators, TrustZone technology, and secure key storage, the MCUs support IP protection and secure device firmware updates.
ModusToolbox supports PSOC Control with a unified platform of tools and software solutions. This ecosystem includes Motor Suite and Power Suite, offering dedicated libraries for focus applications. The suites feature an intuitive graphical user interface that simplifies evaluation, training, and real-time parameter monitoring, providing critical insights into system performance, efficiency, and reliability. Specialized application environments help engineers quickly identify issues, optimize designs, and enhance overall functionality.
