Bourns Expands Automotive-Grade Varistor Line with New BVRA1210 and BVRA1812 Series for Enhanced Surge Protection

Bourns, Inc. has introduced two new product series to its AEC-Q200 compliant BVRA line of automotive-grade multilayer varistors. The BVRA1210 and BVRA1812 Series are specifically engineered to offer advanced surge protection for today’s increasingly complex and sensitive automotive electronics. These low-voltage multilayer varistors utilize cutting-edge energy volume distribution and optimized power dissipation techniques to achieve superior transient energy absorption performance.

Both new series meet the stringent IEC 61000-4-5 standards, equipping automotive designers with dependable overvoltage protection against damaging transient voltage spikes. Engineered for high responsiveness, the BVRA1210 and BVRA1812 feature an ultra-fast reaction time of less than 1.0 nanoseconds, enabling rapid diversion of surge energy to protect critical components. Additionally, the devices maintain a stable leakage current profile to ensure consistent and reliable protection over time. The varistors are offered across a broad DC working voltage range—from 11 V to 100 V—providing design flexibility for a variety of automotive applications.

Compact and efficient, the new varistors are packaged in surface-mountable EIA 1210 and EIA 1812 formats. Each component includes an insulating overcoat that simplifies board-level integration and improves overall assembly efficiency. This robust design makes the BVRA1210 and BVRA1812 ideal for space-constrained automotive electronics where high performance and ease of implementation are critical.
